Is Maria Shriver ready to continue the long tradition of Kennedy women who've forgiven their husbands' extracurricular activities?

TMZ reports it just may be so, as the estranged wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger is re-thinking the idea of pulling the plug on her marriage to the actor and former California governor.

Shriver, TMZ says, is struggling with the decision to divorce because of her Catholic background.

The Catholic Church officially forbids divorce, though many members of the church, including some of Shriver's Catholic relatives, have ended their marriages with divorce.

TMZ also cites sources who tell the Website the one-time Governator is playing Charminator, trying to woo Shriver back to their marriage with gifts and being "extremely sweet" to her.

The couple separated in May, and Shriver filed for divorce July 1, after Schwarzenegger admitted to an affair with the family's housekeeper, Mildred Baena, which resulted in a son, Joseph.

A number of major news sources, including Time, the BBC, The Washington Post, the The Sydney Morning Herald, ABC News, and the New York Post, have generally responded favourably to Andre's work and to her early success.

Several of them have compared her to Jackson Pollock, Salvador Dalí, and Pablo Picasso. At least one other, The New York Times, acknowledged her widespread notoriety but commented that her paintings "are hardly novel from a formal vantage, nor do they provide added meaning below the surface." J-Lo is back -- though maybe not for as long as Fox wanted her.

Fox announced Wednesday that Jennifer Lopez would return in January to the judges table for the 11th season of "American Idol," joining Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, who already re-upped. The news confirms what executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told Ryan Seacrest on Seacrest's radio show last week.

But the producers didn't get exactly what they sought. In lengthy talks with Lopez they were pushing for a multiyear contract, but the star would agree only to a one-year extension, according to a source familiar with the deal. Reports pegged her new salary at $20 million, a huge bump from $12 million this year. Tyler has another two seasons on his deal.

A Fox spokeswoman said the network wouldn't comment on contract specifics.

"Idol" may have had little choice. Ratings for the 10th season that wrapped in May were stronger than many expected, with many reviewers praising Lopez and Tyler for reinvigorating the show (on the other hand, some critics complained that they offered too much happy talk and too little substantive commentary). No word on whether J-Lo would rejoin Marc Anthony for another rump-shaking "Idol" live performance: The pair recently announced they're ending their marriage.

Interestingly, the release announcing the judging trio's return contained quotes from "Idol" creator Simon Fuller, executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz and Fox reality chief Mike Darnell, but not from Lythgoe.

Mr Justice Vos made the order after Steve Coogan, the comedian, and Andy Gray, the football commentator, asked the High Court to force Mulcaire to divulge whether he hacked their phone messages.

Both men, who intend to pursue damages claims, had been told by the Metropolitan Police that there was evidence their phones may have been hacked.

The “target list” was included in notebooks seized by police in an investigation which led to Mulcaire being jailed for intercepting voicemail messages of members of the Royal Household in 2007.

Mulcaire had claimed that handing over the list would breach his right to avoid incriminating himself, but the judge threw out his argument. It means Mulcaire will not only have to divulge the names of people whose phones he hacked, but could also be forced to tell a court who asked for the information and who received it.

The judge said: “I think the identity of the other targeted names and the people who helped identify those names, and the manner in which it was done, will be relevant to the conspiracy between News Group Newspapers and Mr Mulcaire that is alleged.”

The “target list” is thought to include Max Clifford, the publicist, and Gordon Taylor, the former head of the Professional Footballers’ Association, both of whom have received payouts from the News of the World.

Mr Justice Vos said in his ruling that there was "abundant evidence" that Mr Gray's voicemails were intercepted and a "strong inference" that misuse was made of the confidential information.

He added that it was also fair to infer that Mulcaire had the ability to intercept Mr Coogan's telephone and was likely to have done so.

A total of 14 people are currently suing over alleged phone hacking, including the former England footballer Paul Gascoigne, the politician George Galloway, the actress Sienna Miller, and interior designer Kelly Hoppen.

Almost 3,000 people whose names were found in Mulcaire’s notebooks will be contacted by police in the coming months, though in many cases there is no direct evidence of phone hacking. Mulcaire was given permission to appeal against the decision. http://www.telegraph.co.uk

Sex Scandal Threatens a Georgia Pastor’s Empire

Over the last two decades, Bishop Eddie L. Long has built a religious and financial empire from scratch, transforming a small, faltering church into a modern cathedral with one of the largest and most influential congregations in the country.

Today, Bishop Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church includes a multimillion-dollar network of charities and businesses, a private school and the Samson’s Health and Fitness Center, where he holds court and pumps iron with young people.

His message that God wants people to prosper has attracted celebrities, professional athletes and socialites, swelling the membership to 25,000. The church hosted four United States presidents for the funeral of Coretta Scott King in 2006.

The rapid expansion of the church — often called “Club New Birth” because it attracts so many young black singles — has also made Bishop Long a powerful political player, especially in DeKalb County, home to one of the wealthiest black communities in the country. The church has become a mandatory stop for many politicians — local, state and national — and Bishop Long supports candidates of both parties.

But Bishop Long’s reputation and sprawling enterprises now stand threatened by a sex scandal.

Four former members of a youth group he runs have accused him of repeatedly coercing them into homosexual sex acts, and of abusing his considerable moral authority over them while plying them with cash, new cars, lodging and lavish trips.

Bishop Long has denied the accusations in a letter sent to a local radio station and has promised to address them from the pulpit on Sunday. He declined, through his lawyer, to comment for this article.

The accusations are all the more explosive because Bishop Long styles himself a social conservative, rails against homosexuality and calls for a ban on same-sex marriage. His church even holds seminars promising to “cure” homosexuals.

“When this comes out, it gives at least the perception of hypocrisy — it’s like red meat to a lion, everyone’s pouncing on this story,” said the Rev. Timothy McDonald III, a friend of Bishop Long who heads the First Iconium Baptist Church. “This is the issue: how can you be against homosexuality and you are allegedly participating in it? That is the epitome of hypocrisy.”

The accusations center on the LongFellows Youth Academy, an exclusive group of teenage boys handpicked by Bishop Long for spiritual mentoring.

The boys went through a bonding ritual, known as a “covenant ceremony,” in which Bishop Long gave them jewelry and exchanged vows with them while quoting from Scripture as ceremonial candles burned, according to court complaints filed against the pastor. Reciting Bible verses, the pastor promised to protect them from harm and called them “spiritual sons.”

But four former members of the group now say the real purpose of the academy was to provide Bishop Long with young men whom he could lure into sex. The men say they were past the legal age of consent when Bishop Long initiated the relationships. Still, the charges have shaken Atlanta’s church-going society, spurring painful conversations from kitchen tables to talk radio.

Bishop Long cuts a flashy figure in Lithonia, the Atlanta suburb where he lives and has built his church. He is often seen in a Bentley attended by bodyguards. He tends to wear clothes that show off his muscular physique. He favors Gucci sunglasses, gold necklaces, diamond bracelets and Rolex watches. He lives in a 5,000-square-foot house with five bedrooms, which he bought for $1.1 million in 2005.

His lavish display of wealth is in keeping with his theology. In his sermons, he often tells his congregation that God wants them to be wealthy and asserts that Jesus was not a poor man. By all accounts, he has been well compensated for his leadership in building New Birth from a church with a few hundred members into the largest congregation in Georgia. His televised sermons reach 170 countries.

In 2005, for instance, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution published tax records showing that from 1997 to 2000 Bishop Long had accepted $3 million in salary, housing, a car and other perks from a charity he controlled.

“We’re not just a church, we’re an international corporation,” he told the newspaper in justifying his compensation. “We’re not just a bumbling bunch of preachers who can’t talk and all we’re doing is baptizing babies. I deal with the White House. I deal with Tony Blair. I deal with presidents around this world. I pastor a multimillion-dollar congregation.”

After the article about his compensation, Bishop Long hired a public relations firm and went on a campaign to improve his image, Mr. McDonald said. He began charitable programs to feed the poor, help struggling people with mortgages and even offer haircuts to the homeless.

“The bishop used to be perceived as aloof, untouchable, with his entourage all around him,” Mr. McDonald said. “He started putting himself in a different light, a more positive light.”

Bishop Long’s critics and his defenders are waiting for an explanation of the accusations against him. Some members of the church believe he is the victim of a smear campaign by people in favor of gay rights, though they offer no proof.

“It’s propaganda, man,” said Anthony M. Harris, 30, a businessman who says Bishop Long has served as his role model. “It’s retaliation for the 2004 march, the anti-gay-marriage march.”

But the accusations have turned others away from Bishop Long. William Abernathy, 25, a music producer, said that he had attended the church several times this year and was considering joining, but that the accusations, coupled with Bishop Long’s opulent lifestyle, persuaded him to go elsewhere.

“I’m going to pass on that,” Mr. Abernathy said. “It’s like hot milk now, sitting on the curb, getting sour.”

Many in the congregation, meanwhile, have been wrestling with feelings of betrayal. “My heart just kind of sank,” said Cheryl Jenkins, 43, who owns an accounting firm. “If he says he didn’t do it, we believe in him. If it turns out that he did and he apologizes, we have to accept it. No one is above reproach.”

Bishop Long was born in Charlotte, N.C., where his father, Floyd Long, was a Baptist minister and owned a service station. In interviews and his books, he has described his father as a drinker and emotionally distant.

“To be candid, I’ve been working to remove the tentacles of nearly 40 years’ worth of pain and complications that came my way against my will during the first 12 years of my life, and my father was a preacher,” he wrote in his 2002 self-help book, “What a Man Wants, What a Woman Needs.”

He studied business at North Carolina Central University, then went to work as a sales representative for the Ford Motor Company, but was fired over inaccuracies in his expense accounts. He moved to Atlanta to study theology and became the pastor of a small church in Jonesboro, Ga.

In 1987, when he took over New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, it had only 300 members and a small building. He adopted a modern image, using slang and dressing like a hip-hop mogul. He borrowed ideas from evangelical and charismatic churches and expanded his reach through cable TV.

He also adopted what has become known as “muscular Christianity,” a male-dominated view that emphasizes a warriorlike man who serves as the spiritual authority and protector in a family. His books on relationships suggest that men get in touch with their inner “wild man” and channel their fighting instincts into taking responsibility for their lives. Women are to submit to their husbands, he says.

Bishop Long has been married twice and has four children.

B. J. Bernstein, a lawyer for the four young men who claim to have been coerced into sexual affairs with Bishop Long, said the pastor exerted a paternalistic and, at times, autocratic influence over young men.

The four complaints filed in court describe how Bishop Long arranged for the church to provide cars to the young men and put them on the church payroll. Two of them also said they received free lodging in church-owned houses, where, they said, Bishop Long visited them for sessions of kissing, oral sex or masturbation. He also took them on trips to other cities and abroad, sharing rooms with them, with the knowledge of several church officials, the complaints say.

“There are biblical and spiritual passages that were given to them to make them comfortable and make them believe that they were not gay,” Ms. Bernstein said.

In the letter to the radio station, Bishop Long called the accusations false. “We continue to categorically deny each and every one of these ugly charges,” he said. - Nytimes

Granted, there are differences. Here's a few:

In Switch, 1. we never see Aniston pregnant. She stays perfect and skinny, the way she always is, though her cheeks are looking a little plumper (injections, maybe?). 2. Kassie is a TV producer with a much funnier, busybody friend (Juliette Lewis) to give her unsolicited advice. 3. The guy you're supposed to be rooting for to get Aniston is goofy Arrested Development star Bateman. Yes, he is adorable and all, but as leading man material? Not so sure there. At least he is the actual dad, so OK, we get the connection.

In Plan, 1. the sperm donor is anonymous; 2. Lopez is a pet shop owner with a much funnier, busybody sister (Michaela Watkins) to give her advice. 3. The soulmate with terrible timing is hunk Alex O'Loughlin. This attraction we get. The Australian star of the upcoming Hawaii Five-O remake is one hot property.

But would this young stud really have stuck around when a mood-swinging, expanding Lopez started eating greasy chicken in bed?

Sigh, all this estrogen makes me feel like watching Inglorious Basterds.

It's been a rough few days for Kelly Osbourne! Last week, news broke that her engagement to fiancé Luke Worrall was over, and on Sunday, she Tweeted that her Pomeranian puppy, Woody, had died.

"My life just could not get any worst (sic) right now," she wrote. "I come home to find my dog woody is dead."

Osbourne was spending a few nights in Las Vegas following her split from Worrall, in an effort to move on from the failed relationship and celebrate a pal's birthday. "She seemed really happy and not phased by the breakup," a source, who saw the star out in Sin City, told PEOPLE. But the sudden loss of her pup was presumably not easy to handle.

The former Dancing with the Stars contestant got Woody in early June, when she flew to West Virginia to purchase a new pooch for her dad Ozzy, who lost his dog to a coyote last year. She has another Pomeranian, Sid, received as a birthday gift from her parents last October.

Scarlett Johansson Was Worried 'Iron Man' Costume Wouldn't Fit

Scarlett Johansson is considered a Hollywood goddess with her classic curves, but it turns out the starlet was slightly concerned that those female assets would rebel against being sucked into a tight black body suit for her role in the “Iron Man” sequel.

"When you wear a catsuit, you wonder if it is all in one place – I had been training so hard at that point I just I figured if I didn't look good in it then I should never ever wear it, so I was happy,” she told Pop Tarts at the Hollywood premiere of the highly-anticipated flick. “But the first time you zip it up you go 'okay (phew) there it is in place’ after lots of egg whites."

However ScarJo looking so taut and tantalizing was actually problematic for production – Jon Favreau lost his focus when both directing and playing her co-star in a fight scene.

"When I saw her in the Black Widow suit at first I was impressed with her, but it was a little distracting and I was like 'wow are we really going to be able to do this?' But she learned how to fight and it looks just like in the comic books so we really set the bar high and she lived up to our expectations,” Favreau said. “But having Scarlett beat me up sounds better on paper than it does in real life, it was actually very demeaning and painful. But at least it looks good.”

And despite all those jealously rumors swirling between Johansson and co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, (who worked out two hours a day, six days a week with her BFF trainer Tracy Anderson to get in top shape for the flick herself ), Gwyn couldn’t deny Johansson’s impressive transformation.

I thought “Wow that is hot, that is hot right there,” Paltrow gushed. “She was so great to work with; she is a really smart, cool funny girl. It was nice to have another girl on set this time to talk about girl stuff with, it was great."

Even Robert Downey, Jr. felt it was his “duty” to go to the camera test as a “contributing editor to Team Marvel” for another opportunity to eyeball Johansson’s fabulous figure. But when he wasn’t trying to get a glimpse of Johannson, he was busy locking lips with his pseudo sister.

“When I was making out with Gwyneth … to tell you the truth it was like making out with your sister. Not that I have,” Downey Jr. quipped.

But just after telling us Gwyn was like his sis, he (somewhat disturbingly) opened up about their amazing “chemistry” in front of the lens.

“She is my second favorite girl to be on-set with (mind you, his producer wife Susan was standing right by his side). I don’t know how to explain when you have chemistry with someone on film but it happened with us and we’re really fortunate,” he added.

Rihanna and Kesha flew to Germany on March 4 to perform live for this year's Echo Awards. There were also Sade and Take That 's former member Robbie Williams coming to the annual event as performers.

She traded the outfit she wore on the red carpet, nude Christian Louboutin Pigalle pumps and a forest green plunging neckline jumpsuit by Alexandre Vauthier Couture, with a black and white bodysuit. Tiger Woods' Wife Skips Press Conference

Tiger Woods' wife Elin skipped his much-hyped press conference Friday morning.

Instead, Woods, 34, stood alone in sports coat and dress shirt as he addressed a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates at the clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (The Golf Writers Association of America boycotted the conference because Woods did not reporters to ask any questions.)

"I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in," he began.

He later said, "People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife and my children."

He went on to say that "Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage of my behavior."

But he added: "What we say to each other will stay between the two of us."

He also said that he was "angered" by reports that Elin, 30, hit him the night before

Thanksgiving.

He said his wife deserves "praise, not blame."

Whether or not Elin would appear at Friday's conference had been speculated. Initial reports said she would not attend, but she caused chatter Thursday -- the day before her husband's mea culpa -- by stepping out in head-to-toe Nike wear.

"I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves," Woods wrote on his website. "I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone."

Just days after what the golf superstar described as an embarrssing car acid assident.. , Woods explained he was "dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means."

"For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives," Woods wrote. "The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect."

In recent days, stories have surfaced with one woman's claim that she had an affair with Woods, another woman's denial of such an affair, and photos of Woods and a third woman.

"Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn't have to mean public confessions," the 33-year-old stated.

Nevertheless, Woods expressed his regret to his family and fans. "I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves," Woods wrote. "For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology."

SEXY singer Shakira has babies on the brain.

The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker — who has been with her boyfriend for nine years — plans to start a family when her tour ends.

“My body feels like it is asking to reproduce, to have a huge belly and carry babies,” said the 32-year-old. “And when the baby comes, I don’t want to be in the middle of 100,000 projects.”

The star also admits she has an oral fixation.

“I’ve always lived through my mouth,” the diva told Rolling Stone magazine. “It’s my biggest source of pleasure: what I say, what I sing, the kisses I give, the chocolate I eat.”

Shakira recently revealed that she is definitely not to be messed with when she’s in a bad mood.

The Latina superstar’s latest album boasts an infectious sound with a slightly more dancey beat.

LATINA superstar Shakira is back with a new album She Wolf today, following the release of the first single of the same title recently.

Shakira wrote and produced She Wolf with John Hill (Santogold) and penned the, as usual, quirky lyrics. She weaves a mischievous tale of a metaphorical she wolf in the distinctively dance fusion style that fans have come to expect. An inventively sexy video directed by Jake Nava and featuring the metamorphosis of a woman told through her unique dance techniques, was also released recently.

She Wolf boasts the infectious and energising sound that made Shakira a household name, with a slightly more dancey/electronic beat.

The song has an organic disco feel with a chorus: There’s a she wolf in the closet, open up and set it free, there’s a she wolf in the closet, let it out so it can breathe. At the start of the song, an ominous fanfare through a vocoder hooks the listener “there’s a she wolf in disguise, coming out, coming out, coming out.” Then a vibrant string section builds to a final crescendo at the end of the song.

The album features a predominantly English track list with a follow-up album of new and unique repertoire in Spanish coming in 2010. In an emotional interview with Barbara Walters, La Toya Jackson, the 53-year-old sister of pop icon Michael Jackson, describes how she was overcome with grief when she heard the tragic news of her brother's death July 25.

"I got so weak, I couldn't drive. And ... I was asking anybody on the streets, 'Please, can you drive me to the hospital, please?'" she told Walters. "Everything left my body. I was so weak, I couldn't accelerate."

La Toya, who was the first one to appear at her brother's bedside the day he died, said that despite overwhelming grief, she had to pull herself together for the well-being of Michael's three children.

"I went into the room ... and there is my mother sitting down. And there are the kids, all three of them, on her ... sitting on her lap, just crying as loud as they could. ... They were just crying uncontrollably," she said. "And there I was screaming and crying when I realized it was actually true. ... And I caught myself and said, 'You have to be strong for the kids. Stop it. Get a grip to yourself,' and that's what I did."

"And trying to comfort them," La Toya remembers, "my mother was so strong ... I was very proud of her, the way she handled herself, her conduct was great."

The family's grief was captured on camera during the public memorial service for the pop superstar, as Michael's 12-year-old daughter, Paris, delivered tearful remarks in which she declared her undying love for her father. La Toya told Walters that during the service, Paris "wanted so badly to say something to her father."

"I think it was ... Stevie Wonder that was on. And she said, 'Auntie La Toya, can I go on now and say something to daddy?' And I started thinking, I said, 'You know what, Paris? At the end we're all going to say goodbye and go on stage and thank the audience and say goodbye.' I said, 'I think that would be a great opportunity for you to go then.' And she said, 'OK, I'll do it then.'"

The night before the memorial, there was also a very private farewell between the father and daughter, when Paris visited Michael's open casket and laid stones on his chest, La Toya said.

"Paris did visit the casket. And she put two stones on his chest. ... They were beautiful. They looked like emeralds," La Toya said. "And it was so sweet and so kind and so delicate and so warm. And I just ... I just loved that.

Michael Jackson Dead At Age 50 (June 25th, 2009)

Michael Jackson's death from a cardiac arrest was probably the result of drug abuse, said a family lawyer who claimed the star was addicted to painkilling medication.

Paramedics were called to Jackson's Los Angeles home just after noon on Thursday. He was rushed to UCLA Medical Centre where doctors battled in vain for an hour to save his life. He was pronounced dead at 2.26pm, with family members at his bedside.

The night before his death he had been in rehearsals for his 50-date London comeback tour.

Brian Oxman, the family's lawyer and long-time friend, said Jackson's family had long been concerned about his use of prescription drugs and blamed "enablers" in his entourage for making the situation worse.

There were reports that the 50-year-old singer had been given a painkilling injection shortly before his death.

Mr Oxman likened Jackson's demise to the drug-related death of Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy model, and said it came as no surprise to those close to the singer.

His family believed his reliance on painkillers had become "extensive" as he struggled with injuries during rehearsals.

"This is a case of abuse of medications," Mr Oxman said. "This is not something which had been unexpected. Because of the medication that Michael was taking, his family had been trying for months and months and months to take care of Michael Jackson.

"The people who have surrounded him have been enabling him. If you think the case of Anna Nicole Smith was an abuse, it was nothing in comparison to what we have seen taking place in Michael Jackson's life."

Mr Oxman told CNN: "Michael had appeared at rehearsals a couple of time, he was very seriously trying to be able to do this. His use of medication had gotten in the way, his injuries which he had sustained performing - where he had broken a vertebrae and had broken his leg from a fall from the stage - had gotten in the way.

"I do not know the extent of the medications that he was taking, but the reports that we have been receiving in the family is that it was extensive and this is something which I feared and something which I warned about.

"I don't know the cause of all this so I can't tell you what the ultimate result of it is going to be, but I can tell you for sure when you warn people that this is what's going to happen and then it happens, where there is smoke there is fire."

Drug use can cause cardiac arrest and Jackson had a long-standing reliance on painkillers. There were reports that the singer was taking Demerol, a powerful medication similiar to morphine, and the opiate Dilaudid. Toxicology tests will be carried out on his body and an autopsy is likely to be undertaken today. His body was flown to the coroner's office by helicopter.

News of Jackson's death was confirmed by his brother, Jermaine, who gave a press conference at the hospital.

He said: "My brother, the legendary King of Pop, passed away on Thursday June 25 at 2.26pm. We believe he suffered a cardiac arrest at his home, however the cause of his death is unknown until the results of the autopsy are known. The personal physician who was with him at the time attempted to resuscitated him."

Stars from the world of showbusiness and politics united in tribute to the star who revolutionised pop music with albums such as Thriller, but whose later years were tainted by allegations of child abuse.

Sir Paul McCartney, who dueted with Jackson in the early 1980s on Say Say Say, said : "It's so sad and shocking. I feel privileged to have hung out and worked with Michael. He was a massively talented boy man with a gentle soul. His music will be remembered forever and my memories of our time together will be happy ones."

Madonna said: "I can't stop crying over the sad news. I've always admired Michael Jackson – the world has lost one of its greats but his music will live on forever.

"My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless."

Prime Minister Gordon Brown paid tribute to Jackson, saying: "This is very sad news for the millions of Michael Jackson fans in Britain and around the world."

Britney Spears said: "I was so excited to see his show in London. We were going to be on tour in Europe at the same time and I was going to fly in to see him. He has been an inspiration throughout my entire life and I'm devastated he's gone!"

The Rev Al Sharpton, the civil rights campaigner, described Jackson as a "historic figure", saying: "Michael Jackson made culture accept a person of colour way before Tiger Woods, way before Oprah Winfrey, way before Barack Obama."

He added: "Many ridiculed him. It's amazing to see how many people are now praising him that wouldn't go near him in the last several years, and condemnde him. In our last conversation a couple of months ago when I was teasing him I was coming to England to see him perform again, he talked about how many people had let him down. I told him it didn't matter, he had never let the fans down. "

Quincy Jones, the music producer who worked with Jackson on Thriller, said: "I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news."

Paying tribute to the singer's "talent, grace, professionalism and dedication", he added: "I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

There was speculation that the pressure of his forthcoming London dates may have been too much for Jackson.

AEG Live, which organised the concerts at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, said Jackson had passed a lengthy physical exam in early 2009, but he last toured 12 years ago and looked markedly frail at the press conference to promote the shows.

Fears for his health emerged after he postponed the earliest dates, and his aides were forced to deny that he was fighting skin cancer.

Max Clifford, the publicist and friend of Jackson, said: "You wonder if the strain of getting fit for this major tour proved too much. In recent pictures he looked anything but healthy. He was always someone who seemed to find it difficult to cope with fame."

Another friend of Jackson, the illusionist Uri Geller, said there had been no indication that the singer was in a frail condition.

"I really have no words. He was a young and terribly fit man and he was getting ready for performances in England. He was just fine, the last I heard."

Jackson lived as a virtual recluse following his 2005 acquittal on charges including child molestation and kidnap.

He repeatedly denied undergoing cosmetic surgery, despite very visible changes to his face and skin tone, and was criticised for forcing his children to wear veils whenever they were in public.

Born in 1958, Jackson made his musical debut with four of his older brothers in the Jackson Five before embarking on a solo career.

His 1982 album Thriller – which included the hits Beat It, Billie Jean and Thriller – is still the best-selling album of all time, with more than 26 million copies sold. His lifetime sales tally is estimated at 750? million.

In 1994, he married Lisa Marie Presley, the 26-year-old daughter of Elvis Presley. The couple separated two years later and Jackson later married Debbie Rowe, a 37-year-old nurse he met while undergoing plastic surgery in 1997. They had two children, Prince Michael and Paris Michael Katherine, before divorcing in 1999.

Jackson had custody of the two children and of a third, Prince Michael II, whose mother's name has never been made public.

Jon Gosselin: "It Just Gets Worse and Worse and Worse"

The latest promo for Monday's special hour-long episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8, Jon and Kate Gosselin separately talk about their marital struggles.

“We haven’t really known where we were going, but we’ve been dealing with this for a long time," a teary-eyed Kate tells the camera. "[It's] a slow progression that has not popped up one day. It’s not been like a secret."

The first promo for the show, which aired Wednesday, promised a "life-changing" announcement from the couple, who recently celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary apart. Many have speculated that Monday's fifth season episode will reveal that Jon and Kate are divorcing.

"It doesn't matter where Jon and I are in our relationship," she continues. "My kids still matter the most to me."

Jon seemed to echo his wife's emotional sentiments, noting the strain on the couple’s relationship was not anything new.

"It just got worse and worse and worse,” Jon says in a separate confessional interview. "And with all the tabloids and all that, it just made it even worse."

Us Weekly has chronicled the couple's crumbling marriage as Jon had a three-month affair with 23-year-old Deanna Hummel, and Kate had an "inseparable" relationship with her bodyguard, Steve Neild.

Although Jon -- who went apartment hunting and looked at property at Trump Place in NYC this week -- doesn't address those reports in the latest promo, he does admit he's not the same man who married Kate.

"People think I’ve changed and I have changed," he says. "But I’m now the person I know I am."

Angelina Jolie graces the cover of July's Harper's Bazaar.

But the actress, who turned 34 last Thursday, isn't interviewed for the piece.

Instead, feminist author Naomi Wolf examines Jolie's appeal, concluding that "women both identify with her and desire her."

It's "more than simply a physical response," Wolf says.

For the first time in modern culture, Jolie "brings together almost every aspect of female empowerment and liberation," Wolf declares.

Above all, she says Jolie has proved that women can be viewed as a symbol of goodness, and also be seen as sexual.

She looks at the way Jolie has transformed from a wild child to a woman with it all.

Jolie initially made headlines for her "eccentric" behavior, which included "slightly icky" smooch sessions with Billy Bob Thornton (she famously wore a vial of his blood around her neck) and kissing her brother on the lips at the 2000 Oscars.

"At that point, Jolie seemed to be simply an attention-seeking, slightly Goth upstart," Wolf writes.

But after she adopted Maddox in 2002 and became a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, "she seemed more mature, more beautiful, and more serious," says Wolf.

At the time, "Jolie revealed a new, and fairly radical, vision of single motherhood..." Wolf says.

Even when scandal broke in her life -- Brad Pitt split from Jennifer Aniston in 2005 after getting close to Jolie on the Mr. and Mrs. Smith set -- "she managed the almost unheard-of task of turning the home-wrecker label into a wholesome, family-friendly triumph," says Wolf.

"There was little Maddox, who was growing up and clearly enjoying tossing footballs with his mother's new boyfriend," she explains. "Jolie had managed to head off the scarlet letter by giving a boy an ideal masculine counterpoint."

Jolie also broke barriers by learning to fly.

"Flying a private plane is the classic metaphor for choosing your own direction; usually, that is a guy thing to do, yet there was Jolie, with her aviator glasses on, taking flying lessons so she could blow the mind of her four-year-old son," writes Wolf.

As for the multiethnicity of her family, Wolf notes it's "a delicious in-your-face countermove against conventions about who we are to one another and what 'family' is expected to look like."

Says Wolf, "She seems, without breaking stride, to care for half a football team of children while the rest of us tread water with our own biological offspring."

So what's next for Jolie?

"No way to tell," Wolf says, "but I am certain, given the knack she has shown for tapping into this female collective unconscious, that we will watch with more than ordinary interest."

Susan Boyle wins place in Britain's Got Talent final

The unemployed church volunteer was watched by a global audience of millions as she performed live in front of the nation for the first time.

The Scottish singer, 47, was competing in the semi-finals of the competition which she took by storm with the opening lines of her first song "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables in the first round.

ITV.com decided to make clips of the semi-final available throughout the world – rather than restricted to the UK as is usual – because of the level of interest in Miss Boyle, who lives alone in West Lothian with her cat Pebbles.

Her first performance of I Dreamed a Dream has been viewed nearly 60 million times on video website YouTube since she sang it in April.

Organisers are insisting the final result is still up for grabs. Miss Boyle was competing against seven other acts, including a belly dancer, impersonators, a dance group and a violinist.

Asked by hosts Ant and Dec how she had coped with the pressure she said: "What pressure? I really enjoyed myself. I enjoyed every second. I'd do it again!"

A total of 39 acts including a 11-year-old street dancer, a woman and her dancing dog and a group of farmers who perform with a wheelbarrow are in the semi-finals of the show, which are to be screened over the next week.

Two acts from each of the five shows will be picked by the public and the judges to make it through to the grand final next Saturday.

They are all competing for the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Show and a £100,000 cheque.

American Idol: Matt flat on the mat

It was a week of Rat Pack classics and actor-singer Jamie Foxx was the coolest mentor thus far. PHILIP LIM knows the contestants are now feeling the heat.

MATT Giraud’s run in this competition has come to an end. He pooled the lowest number of votes.

Jamie Foxx believed My Funny Valentine was a big song and it prompted the Oscar winner to recall Matt for a second rehearsal.

Randy highlighted the common pitchy problem. Kara DioGuardi was basically unimpressed because of the missing emotional connection.

Mischievous Simon Cowell told Matt: “For me, it was the only authentic performance. You were absolutely brilliant.” That remark drew a bewildered look from Randy.
In case, anyone is wondering, Rat Pack refers to the group of Hollywood entertainers in the 1960s comprising Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.

Kris Allen smoothened things along with The Way You Look Tonight. His vocals were smooth as honey. Jamie was so impressed with Kris that he said “this is the dude I want to do a record with”.

“Dude, for me personally, this is your best performance” was how Randy Jackson put it. Kara quickly jumped in and said “technically, you have set the standards so high”.

Only Simon said he wasn’t so enthusiastic as his colleagues. “I didn’t get the feeling that you would be able to win this competition,” said not-so-simple Simon.

Allison Iraheta, the only girl left in the competition, showed why she stayed when other female contestants had already gone home.

Someone To Watch Over Me gave Allison the opportunity to show the boys that even though she’s 17, she’s no pushover.

“Dude, that was a bomb, and I love it,” was how top dawg Randy put it. Kara paid Allison a huge compliment when she said “if that doesn't put you in the final, I don’t know what will”.

Simon asked Allison: “Do you think you can win this competition? I have a horrible feeling you could be in trouble tonight.” Does Simon know something we don’t?

I liked the way Jamie stared closely at Danny Gokey during rehearsal. Danny’s delivery of Come Rain, Come Shine was faultless.

Danny boy can only get better from now on. The crowd competed with the band for attention with a crescendo of applause.

“Let me tell you, you are the only one who can sing an album of this kind of songs,” said Randy.

“You had that Rat Pack swagger. It was unbelievable,” uttered a gushing Kara.

“What Kara said was 100 per cent correct,” said Simon. No argument from me.

The world must have felt pretty good when Adam sang Feeling Good.

Jamie summed it all up: “He’s gonna knock everyone’s head off."

Adam has got class and the looks of a rock star. The only person who could give him a run for his money is Danny Gokey.

I absolutely agreed with Randy that Adam is “in the zone”. Both Paula Abdul and Kara went off the rails with their praise for Adam.

Adam looked like he was in a league of his own when he made his entrance down the stairs. If you are not an Adam fan, you need counselling.

It’s Adam's title to lose. Having said that, it’s time to shout, “Danny, rev up the engine!”

Dakota Fanning Confirmed For 'New Moon'

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- After weeks of speculation, Dakota Fanning has officially joined the cast of "New Moon," Summit Entertainment confirmed to Access Hollywood on Saturday.

The 15-year-old actress, currently starring in Summit's "Push," will play the role of Jane, a member of the Italian Volturi vampires in the "Twilight" sequel.

In January, Dakota told Access she was excited about possibly joining the film when reports of her talks with the studio emerged.

"I think it's too soon to tell if I'll for sure be doing it, but it's so great," she said at the time. "Pretty much all my friends are big fans."

And, she added, she's ready for her vampire close-up.

"I don't think they'll have to put a lot of makeup on me," she joked. "I'm pretty white already."

And "Twilight" fans may get to see her alongside star Kristen Stewart in another movie, as well - Variety reported on Wednesday that she is negotiating to join the cast of rock biopic "Runaways" as singer Cheri Currie. Kristen is set to play Joan Jett in the film.

"New Moon" is slated for a November 20, 2009 release date.

Rihanna's Dad: "It's Good and It's Bad to See the Picture"

Rihanna's father tells Usmagazine.com the leaked photo, allegedly of his daughter after her Feb. 8 altercation with Chris Brown, is "terrible."

"Yeah, I saw it," Ronald Fenty told Us in a telephone interview Friday morning. "It's disturbing."

The photo shows a female, who appears to be Rihanna, with bruises and cuts on her forehead, lips and cheeks.

Fenty said people now will be able to "grasp the situation a lot better.

"It's good and it's bad to see the picture because there's other people who were thinking differently, that [Rihanna's injuries] may not be that bad, just a little spank or a little thing."

Los Angeles Police have launched an internal investigation Thursday to determine who leaked the photo.

"The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence," the LAPD said in a statement Thursday. "A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination."

Rihanna turns 21 today. Her close friends took out a birthday greeting in the local Barbados newspaper. "Amidst all the negativity about Ri Ri. God will continue to bless her," they said. Link to this topic

Jessica Simpson Fights Tears, Flubs Line at Michigan Concert

Jessica Simpson struggled through her Thursday night performance in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

For her 35-minute opening act, the singer, who showed off her controversial curves in short jean shorts and tan cowboy boots, wiped away tears, forgot her words and dedicated a song to her sister Ashlee -- for "when I feel like walking off the stage."

"Her energy level was low, especially when singing her more upbeat songs, 'These Boots Are Made for Walking' and 'With You,'" an eyewitness tells Usmagazine.com. "Most of the concert she spent looking straight into the crowd or had her back to the audience to compose herself."

While singing "Forgiveness," she turned away from the audience to compose herself as she began to cry. She seemed to lose her place during several songs, The Grand Rapids Press reports, and asked her band to start over on "Pray Out Loud."

"Dear God, help me get through this tonight," she said. "You probably just heard me say that; I have a weak voice and I'm feeling vulnerable tonight."

While singing "With You," she "paused during the middle of the song to take a drink of water while her backup singers took over the lead vocals," the Press reports.

Simpson also dedicated her last song, "Do You Know," to Ashlee, and said her sis gives her strength to keep going,"especially when I feel like walking off the stage."
