Jessica Simpson struggled through her Thursday night performance in Grand Rapids, Michigan.For her 35-minute opening act, the singer, who showed off her controversial curves in short jean shorts and tan cowboy boots, wiped away tears, forgot her words and dedicated a song to her sister Ashlee -- for "when I feel like walking off the stage."
"Her energy level was low, especially when singing her more upbeat songs, 'These Boots Are Made for Walking' and 'With You,'" an eyewitness tells Usmagazine.com. "Most of the concert she spent looking straight into the crowd or had her back to the audience to compose herself."
While singing "Forgiveness," she turned away from the audience to compose herself as she began to cry. She seemed to lose her place during several songs, The Grand Rapids Press reports, and asked her band to start over on "Pray Out Loud."
"Dear God, help me get through this tonight," she said. "You probably just heard me say that; I have a weak voice and I'm feeling vulnerable tonight."
While singing "With You," she "paused during the middle of the song to take a drink of water while her backup singers took over the lead vocals," the Press reports.
Simpson also dedicated her last song, "Do You Know," to Ashlee, and said her sis gives her strength to keep going,"especially when I feel like walking off the stage."
